These were digital promos for the Ateneo de Manila Univerity Men's Football team for UAAP Season 81 (2019).
The bitmap effect and treatment (how the pictures are made up of tiny dots) was inspired by comic book printing styles. As cliché as it sounds, I did this partly because of how I believe student athletes are like superheroes in their own right - they balance school work, training, and social life, and deserve a little more recognition for that!
I made 22 unique layouts for each of the players because I wanted to show the concept of unity in diversity. Each player has a unique position and role in a game, but work together as one in order to play well and win. This is also the reason behind I chose the typeface, Fixture. "Fixture" has many different styles, but still complement each other, even when stretched out or mixed with different weights.
I of course added some texture to complement the dots and colors, but to add "dirtiness" as well. If you notice, the blues aren't even the same shade throughout 22 layouts, and there are many unclean elements. This reflects how a team isn't always perfect, but is always a badass-looking-work-in-progress.
This project is special to me because it's my last sports promo with Jv as a student so again, thank you to everyone who supported us throughout the sports seasons! It was a great 2 years.
